Another provides free housing for the needy. Yet another exalted spirit has to hide behind a curtain to take classes at university – and enters the history books nonetheless. To a fervent female supporter of the Reformation we owe the effects of the iconoclasm in Utrecht. And a heavy ‘English whore’ wrecked the city’s goods crane.
